Guide to Brussels Airport

The capital city of Belgium, Brussels is a famous tourist destination in Europe. It is a well known for its medieval art, buildings, museums, historical areas, cafes and some great shopping areas. Eurostar services have well established links from Brussels to other European cities.

Brussels International Airport is situated at a distance of 6.9 miles to northeast of Belgium. Approximately 70 airlines with flights to more than 150 worldwide destinations operate from this airport. The airport is also the base for Brussels Airlines and a hub for various Star Alliance partners.

Airport Terminals:

Single terminal concept is implemented in the airport, which means all facilities are located under a single roof. However the airport is divided into two piers, A and B that can be reached from both arrivals and departures. Pier A handles flights bound for Schengen countries, while non Schengen flights are handled by pier B. Both the piers are connected by “Connector” building above the ground, for an access to departure gate even without changing floors.

Proposals for the expansion of Pier A were put forth with an aim to ease traffic on pier B by handling flights bound to non Schengen destinations.

The terminal building is also divided into several levels, each with facilities towards easy passengers’ commuting. Level -1 includes railway station, buses and taxis can be availed from level 0, arrivals are located on level 2 while departures on level 3.

Airlines and Destinations:

It is the base for Brussels Airlines and a centre for many Star Alliance Partners. Some of the important destinations served by this airport are Barcelona, Rome, London and Madrid. London Heathrow is regularly served by British Airways and Brussels Airlines.

Airport Accommodation:

Sheraton is the only hotel within the airport premises. Besides, hotels are also located at an easy reach from the airport, most of which can be reached by free shuttle service operating from level 0 of the airport.

Transport:

The airport can be reached by rail, road and taxis. Direct services to various Belgian destinations commence from railway destinations located on level 1 of the airport. Transport by private car is via A 201, that is connected to R0 highway. Car rental services by Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Thrifty are under operation in the airport. Taxis can be availed from outside the arrivals hall.
